There is a growing recognition in India that individuals with intellectual disabilities are not a burden on society, but valuable members who, with the right support and education, can actively contribute to the nation’s economy. This marks a paradigm shift from a charity-based approach to an empowerment-based model of care.
As awareness increases, the number of special schools and inclusive education initiatives across the country is expanding rapidly. The Government of India, in alignment with its commitment to the United Nations, is working towards ensuring that every school becomes inclusive and capable of catering to children with diverse needs—integrating them with their peers in mainstream settings.
This evolving landscape has created a rising demand for professionally trained special educators. Their role is critical in implementing inclusive education and providing individualized care and support.
Career opportunities for trained special educators are growing across various sectors, including:
- Special Schools
- Government Primary and Secondary Schools under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan
- District Rehabilitation Centres
- Community-based rehabilitation programs by Government and NGOs
- Private Clinical and Therapy Centres.
- Educational Institutions and Teacher Training Colleges.
At MISE, we are proud to share that since 2008, 85 students have successfully completed the B.Ed program in Special Education, and 425 students have earned their Diploma in Special Education. To the best of our knowledge, all of them are now meaningfully employed in the sectors listed above.
MISE remains committed to nurturing skilled professionals who will shape the future of inclusive education in India.
